CEO Shares Why He Never Asks His Employees Why They’re Applying For Leaves In LinkedIn Post

In India, the work culture has made it seem normal to put work before everything else. People are praised for working long hours without breaks, even when it’s not healthy. Taking time off is often looked down upon, with employees having to explain why they need a break. Sometimes, they’re denied leave because their bosses don’t think their reasons are good enough. This pressure to prioritize work over well-being can harm employees’ mental and physical health. It creates a cycle where people feel they must constantly prove their dedication, even at the expense of their own happiness and health.

However, Tom Hunt, the founder and CEO of Fame – a digital marketing company, doesn’t ask his employees the reason behind their leaves. In fact, he doesn’t care where the work is getting done, by what time is it getting done, or if his employees are leaving work early or arriving at work late, as long as the work is getting done on time and his clients are happy.

“A new team member asked me to approve his holiday. I immediately approved it. He then went on to explain why he was taking the holiday. My reply: ‘I don’t need to know the details. I hired you to do a job and I trust you to get it done’,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

“You choose how to get your work done: Go to a co-working space? Fine. 9 to 5? Fine. Work from home? Fine. Leave early? Fine. Work from Wetherspoons after dropping the kids off at school? Fine. We are all human. I don’t need to know you’ll be late because of a dentist’s appointment, or you are leaving early to attend to pick up the kids. I am not a clock watcher. I trust you to get your job done. Keeping clients happy? I’m happy,” he further added.

Yes, it’s that simple.
