Doctor Accused Of Causing His Girlfriend’s Skin Cancer When He Gave Her Sleeping Pills

Every day we come across multiple cases of bizarre news that flabbergast us. But when we think that we have seen it all, a new piece of news pops up and we’re stumped. This news of a cardiologist being accused of giving his girlfriend skin cancer is one of them.

Reportedly an NHS consultant cardiologist, Hildick-Smith, 55, allegedly gave his partner extra sedatives on top of medicines she was prescribed by her General Physician after she complained of insomnia and jet-lag post a long-haul of travelling. But wait till you hear how he allegedly ‘gave her cancer’.

The woman, who is also a senior doctor said that she was given so many extra sedatives she became addicted to them. She also informed that they would cause her to fall asleep in the hot California sun for many hours. She complained about Smith’s misconduct to the General Medical Council in 2017.

She told Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester, “When I went to see a dermatologist he said to me that I had obviously had extensive burns to my back when I had been sedated for a number of years.

“I had taken a large dose, therefore I had fallen asleep in the sun for many hours. I had blisters and burning and it was possible that was the cause of melanoma. I would not have it now if this hadn’t happened. It had been an awful ten years of my life.”

The woman made a complaint against the doctor for giving her pills even though she was not his patient when in fact, she was his partner. She said ‘he prescribed the drugs “using private prescriptions and hospital prescription pads”.

Hildick-Smith’s lawyer, however, said she had been taking one of the pills since seven years before the pair even met, after buying it over the counter in the US. He told the court she would say anything to stop her ex from practising medicine.

The man was allegedly charged with dishonesty and misconduct by the General Medical Council however he denies all the charges.
