The concept of pickpockets trying to steal your wallet in public transport is universal.
When the theft happens in our bus or train compartment, the thief is too far away by the time people notice.
But not this bus driver with Spiderman reflexes! A bus driver in Colombia noticed that a pickpocket stole a mobile phone from one of his passengers and with the perfect timing trapped him between the pneumatic doors!
The thief thought he would get away with it in the city of Bogota, just like every time. But the driver showed a brilliant presence of mind and trapped him between the automatic doors.
The doors of the bus are in the driver’s control in countries like USA and Mexico and Colombia. The bus driver, in this case, knew very well when to hit the ‘close door’ button to get the timing perfect!
The passerby outside the bus, though, thought that a man was stuck and tried to help the thief. But the bus driver did not relent and hit the gas and moved away after explaining to them that it was a thief.
The thief dangled helplessly until the driver drove the bus to the nearest police station.
The woman, whose phone was stolen, did not press any charges and so the Bogota police had to let go of the thief.
But the driver needs to be commended for his swift reflexes and presence of mind.
If we just have one person like this in every bus, such incidents of pickpocketing can be stopped.
