Our Indian culture, traditions and customs set us apart from the rest of the world. Even though most of the traditions practised in the country do have scientific backing, some of them still speak volumes of the patriarchy that reigned over us for years. But it is obvious that what feels wrong and regressive to me might not sound problematic to others.
Hence, when a Twitter user @RetardedHurt asked women online what’s stopping them from touching the feet of their husband to #bringbackindiantradition, the internet was divided.
Dear girls, what is stopping you from doing this to your man? #bringbackindiantradition pic.twitter.com/Z1bMfpQOqZ

Many people found his tweets problematic and responded savagely to his queries. Here are a few of them:
The realisation that our place is not at our husbands’ feet but shoulder to shoulder as equal partners in a relationship that makes both parties stronger. https://t.co/F2XFqa4xH2

People quickly jumped on the bandwagon and expressed their opinion on the matter. Soon #bringbackindiantradition started trending online.

All the problematic tweets on this hashtag🤢#bringbackindiantradition
"Wearing jeans" "not worshipping the husband" "influenced by modernisation"
Cultures and traditions evolve, they change with the times, and people change with it.

I do not support #bringbackindiantradition, becoz it's full of compromises. If one compromises in his/her wishes life is not worth living. I believe in the free world. https://t.co/8xYYMiaB74

Why not for a change let men do this to women. If our tradition is wrong then its better get rid of it rather than sticking to it. #bringbackindiantradition

This is bogus. Not everything in tradition is logical and worth emulating. What makes the feet of your man more respectable than his nose or bum? Patriarchy written over all of it.

If this is where you got your tradition Lo be unto you..
This is Brahminical Patriarchy only those having Complex syndromes wish so.. pic.twitter.com/ehWzpaOgNQ— selvakumar (@mindspeak01) July 19, 2020
I am not supporting men superiority or feminism or any. But as a human-being respecting all Bharat traditions, I do this observing "Matha Pitha Guru Daivam" Tatwa from my childhood before starting any endeavors. As we live away from my parents, I do PaadhaNamaskar of my husband.

The user posted another tweet suggesting that women should be in the kitchen doing utensils all the time.
Dear Indian women, what is stopping you from doing this all the time😊? #BacktoKitchen #Gotokitchen #Stayinkitchen pic.twitter.com/769FVZ7LhW

IMO, touching feet was and is still considered a sign of respect toward the elderly in our culture. But doesn’t matrimony mean we’re at par with our spouses? What do you think of this topic? Tell us.
