After Bride Seeks Groom’s Aashirvaad, He Gets Down On Knees To Seek The Same From Her

Many of the practices which take place during traditional weddings can be called patriarchal. For example, the entire norm of a woman leaving her own home to go to her husband’s is patriarchal. A newly-wed woman being expected to touch her husband’s feet and seek ashirvaad can also be called the same. However, times are changing and some couples are trying to bring in the ‘equality’ factor in these traditions.

For example, in a Bengali wedding, the bride and the groom twisted traditions a little. Instead of just the bride, both sought ashirvaad from one another! At first, the bride gets down on her knees and joins her hands in pranaam. Then, the groom helps her stand up and gets down on his knees to do the same!
