A woman’s job is to look after the family and a man’s is to take care of the finances. This, and many such gender stereotypes are so deeply ingrained in the minds of many of us that it seems like getting rid of them will take many more decades and the voices of many more people.
These guys must love their mother dearly. Hence, when they were done watching her do household chores singlehandedly, they decided to (no, not help her with the chores themselves) create a female robot for it. Ya, because even it’s beyond a male robot’s dignity to serve and cook a meal at home.
It’s not any puraney zamaaney ke uncle who thought of inventing a woman robot named ‘Pathooty’, dressed in Indian attire with a dupatta on her head, who would serve food and bring a newspaper
This intelligent idea was the brainchild of a 12th-standard boy named Mohammad Shiad, reported The Times Of India.
The 17-year-old boy, a computer science student from Koothuparamba of Kannur district, Kerala built ‘Android Pathooty’ as part of his school project alongside his school friend Arjun. It’s built using a plastic tool, some aluminum sheets, a female dummy, a serving plate, etc.
Moreover, the robot is controlled by an ultrasonic sensor, the mobile application developed through the M I T app and Admega Micro Controller, and can be operated automatically or manually and cost only Rs 10,000 to build.
“Pathootty can easily carry 5 or 6 kg weights. I named it Pathootty as it moves after identifying the specially designed path,” Shiad said.
IMO, a teenager building a robot to ease the burden of household chores is a great idea. But the essence was ruined when they decided to give it a specific gender and deck her in an orthodox fashion.
People online had very similar thoughts about it.

Typical Indian men’s expectations. Model type body with dupatta on head and serving food to them. Could be fulfilling their Bai fantasies perhaps 😅

Interesting how the maker has chosen a female persona for the robot, thereby reinforcing what patriarchy has always insisted – household chores are for women.

See the look they decided too. The clothing, hair and features. So much effort just to avoid doing chores and becoming viral!

They did not forget to add the flavourful patriarchy by covering her head with a scarf. They gendered the robot because it’s supposed to help around the house so she’s technically a robot bahu. 🤌🏻

Question is why female? 🧐🧐🧐🤦🤦🤦

😂 The robot also has to look like a woman for very obvious reasons

I think we should stop calling it ‘helping around the house’ when it comes to men doing their fair share of household chores. They aren’t helping out anyone by doing their share.

So, apparently, his mom chose the gender of the robot and he was aware of the stereotypical portrayal of it. But, he went ahead with the same. What do you have to say about this?
