Independence is not a wish that is granted. It is something you are born with. While some failed to realize this, some others got a hang of it the very moment they fought with their parents to buy the school bag that had the Twitter bird printed on it, and not Doraemon. But, being independent is far more than simply being decisive, strong-headed and being able to manage livelihood at a young age.
Independent are those who don’t allow anyone else (but themselves) to ride their minds. And if you too are the rider of your own mind, you are sure to relate with the following listed points.
1. Your tastes are never influenced by those of others
You don’t go forth with what’s popular unless you actually believe in it. All other times, you do your own thing. Even when they call you crazy for watching movies alone in theaters, you watch ’em like a badass, and feel proud to be wearing your own skin that is not tainted by everyone else’s notions of what is good and bad.

To you, learning is important. And if the process of learning and growing requires you to take a risky decision, you jump into it with no fear whatsoever.
7. If you worship your hobby, you know you can live your entire life without a life-partner
8. You stand by your opinions, no matter how sour are the lemons thrown at you
Because, pleasing people is NEVER EVER your thing. Standing up for what is right, on the other hand, is.
9. You trust no one, you are self-reliant
Which is why, you don’t have a throng of friends.

For instance- you can easily judge if the person is pitying you or empathizing with you.
12. You always have opinions, but express ’em only to those you feel are deserving of your thoughts

Which is why you are less of a jibber-jabber fan and don’t easily vent your emotions in front of others. You are enough for yourself.

Because you know that independence comes from within, and not always from paying your own bills.

Independence doesn’t come to you when you leave your home to study abroad, and it doesn’t fly away when you return to home after quitting your job.
It stays in you, inspite of it all.
