12 Upcoming Bollywood Biopics We Have Our Eyes Peeled Out For!

Biopics are the latest fad in Bollywood and giving in-and-out commercial masalas a run for their money. And, why not? The audiences love a slice of life on the big screen and love the feeling of getting a peek into a famous person’s life, his/her struggles and get to know them better.

They are indeed a way to engross more people and the filmmakers are bringing more such biopics to the table. If you thought 2016 was a year for them, then you might as well be surprised with the ones being made or announced this year. Here are 12 biopics we have our eyes peeled out for.

1. Anupam Kher – The Accidental Prime Minster

You must’ve seen poster circling the interweb, already. Isn’t the resemblance too uncanny? The veteran is all set to play the role of Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s ex-Prime Minister.

 

2. Hrithik Roshan- Anand Kumar biopic

Duggu is all set to debut in the biopic genre with Vikas Bahl’s film Super 30 ( tentatively titled), which is based on the life of Patna-based mathematician, Anand Kumar.

 

3. Shraddha Kapoor- Saina

The Amole Gupte directorial will feature the Half-Girlfriend star and we hear Shraddha has already begun her prep for stepping into Saina‘s big shoes.

 

4. Boman Irani – Jhalki

The funny guy will be seen as on-screen Kailash Sathyarthi in the film, titled Jhalki, helmed by Bramhanand Singh. The film about the Child Rights Activist and Nobel Prize Winner, who founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan, has made it to our watch list already.

 

5. PV Sindhu biopic

While the film is confirmed and is in the making, who’s playing the titular role is not confirmed yet. We hear Deepika Padukone’s name often with the film and are hoping she does portray Sindhu on the big screen. It is being produced by Sonu Sood.

 

6. Akshay Kumar – Mogul

This film is close to Akshay Kumar’s heart because he began his career with a film whose music was available on T-Series — Gulshan Kumar’s brand. It is directed by Subhash Kapoor.

 

7. Akshay Kumar – Padman

This is a based on the true story of Arunachalam Muruganantham’s struggle to break the stigma associated with sanitary pads. The film is in production and we are vying for its release.

 

8. Akshay Kumar- Gold

A story from the golden pages of history, Akki is all set to play ace hockey player, Kishan Lal (under whose leadership the Indian hockey team bagged the Gold Medal at the 1948 London Olympics). It is directed by Reema Kagti.

 

9. Kangana Ranaut – Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

Queen Kangana is all set to play Rani Laxmi Bai in the film directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi aka Krish. Kangana has already started prepping for the film and is doing her best to get under the skin of Rani Laxmibhai

 

10. Shraddha Kapoor- Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai

Slated to release on July 14, this year, Shraddha Kapoor will be seen as Dawood Ibrahim’s sister (on-screen), Haseena Parker in this biographical crime film. The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhotia.

 

11. Nawazuddin Siddiqui – Manto

Nawaz is back with another memorable role. This time he’s all set to play the Indo-Pakistani short-story writer Sadat Hasan Manto. Directed by Nandita Das, the film’s promo was screened at Cannes 2017.

 

12. Aamir Khan – Saare Jahan Se Achcha

Not only is Aamir acting in the Rakesh Sharma biopic, but he’s also producing it. This one’s helmed by Mahesh Mathai and we are pinning our hopes on this one.

Also, we are pretty psyched about the Rajkumar Rao’s web-series directed by Hansal Mehta, where he will be seen playing Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Oh, and also Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini in Padmavati.
