IIT Topper From Rajasthan Auctions Gifted BMW To Arrange Money For Mother’s Treatment

Lakhs of students appear every year for the IIT entrance examinations for a handful of seats. So when Tanmay Shekawat of Sikar, Rajasthan secured 11th rank in the competitive exam in June 2016, his coaching institute was generous enough to gift him a brand new BMW X1, a car that costs a whopping ₹29 lakhs!

In a turn of events, Tanmay has now auctioned the expensive BMW he received for ₹53 lakhs. He now plans to use the money for the treatment of his ailing mother who is suffering from chronic kidney damage.

Tanmay’s mother Saroj is suffering from renal failure since 2015 and requires dialysis twice a week. His father, Rajeshwar Singh is spending most part of his income on the treatment of his wife.

The family was never convinced with the idea of having such an expensive car at their home as it was too costly to maintain. So they contacted the owner of the coaching centre who arranged an auction for the car. Talking about the auction, Tanmay said,

“THE COST OF THE CAR WAS RS 29 LAKH. BUT WHEN THE PARTICIPANTS CAME TO KNEW ABOUT THE REASON BEHIND THE AUCTION, IT FETCHED RS 53 LAKH. THE ENTIRE SUM IS MEANT FOR MY MOTHER’S TREATMENT UNTIL I START EARNING.”

The BMW was sold to two industrialists from Hyderabad and Jaipur. As for the family, the car finally brought a sigh of relief and turned out to be a precious gift.
