Flying is, quite frankly, an ordeal. Of course, “badaal important hai” (courtesy Zakir Khan) but once you get over that initial excitement, travelling by air isn’t all that fun. Assuming most readers travel economy class, you’re sitting in cramped up seats, eating food that’s not particularly appetising and watching (or rather trying to watch) a random film on a minuscule screen in front of you.
Okay, I might be exaggerating a little bit but the build up was necessary.
A budget airline in Vietnam, VietJet, in order to differentiate itself in the fiercely competitive airline industry, has bikini-clad flight attendants on several flights.
You’d probably still be in cramped up seats but hey, the change of scene is certainly welcome.
The CEO of the company, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao believes that the unconventional dress code is a sign of empowerment in our largely conservative society.

“You have the right to wear anything you like, either the bikini or the traditional ao dai.”
She also added that she doesn’t mind people associating her airline with bikinis as long as it makes them happy.
In fact, the bikinis have led to an exponential revenue growth for the airline and have made the CEO one of only two women billionaires in Vietnam.
Moreover, she ranks 46th on the Forbes World’s Billionaires list of 2017 with a net worth of a whopping $1.7 billion (₹11,000 crores).
