While truly good Bollywood films like Jayeshbhai Jordaar fail at the box office, insufferable movies like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 are minting money. Yes, I happened to watch the film last night and calling it “insufferable” would be an understatement.
The Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa was incredible. The storytelling was spot on, the humour wasn’t forced, the horror wasn’t taken lightly and that entire movie made sense as much as it startled. Not to forget the stellar cast and Vidya Balan’s goosebumps-inducing portrayal of Manjulika.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was a movie that even the classic Tabu couldn’t salvage. By introducing cheap and unfunny punchlines right when the ghost is supposed to scare the audience does very little for the film to make an impact. It’s just a mess of unnecessary scenes, dialogues, and…happenings, for the lack of a better word.
So the fact that the film managed to over Rs 180 crores at the box office is unimaginable for me and many other people online. Here’s what they think:

The reality is, bad movies might work in theatres but won’t work in OTT…Housefull 4, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 all fall into that category only…Mentality of most of people to timepass makes film hit in theatres but in OTT no one watches for timepass…

If these are the kind of movies that become box office hits and not films like Sonchiriya, Mukkabaz, Tamasha or 83, then what hope there is for Hindi cinema?
