Bollywood has given us a lot of good movies. It has also given us some of the finest female characters that we could have asked for. Some complex, independent, thoughtful women who lived life on their own terms. Bollywood tried to break the stereotypes and we loved our bad ass heroines to the core for making these characters come to life!

We have always looked up to Bollywood and when it sketches such empowering women characters we cannot help but be in awe of them. We bring to you some of the most striking characters who unshackled themselves and achieved success!

1. Rani Mukerji- She plays the role of a crime branch officer who fights human trafficking. Her passion and dedication to bring justice to the victims inspire you to do something for the society.

 

2. Kareena Kapoor- Even in her miserable life as a sex worker she helps people in their struggling times. Her character is an embodiment of positivity.

 

3. Anushka Sharma- I personally love the way this character unfolds itself. A brave wife who takes revenge for her husband’s death by literally hunting down the criminals and killing them.

 

4. Priyanka Chopra- Mary Kom goes against the wishes of her family to pursue her dreams. She trains hard and even after having kids, she continues to chase her aspirations and emerges victorious.

 

5. Swara Bhaskar- A doting, single mother who wants her daughter to succeed and have a better life.

 

6. Alia Bhatt- A determined spirit, Kumari Pinky shows us that never giving up can change our lives for the better!

 

7. Vidya Balan- Now, this character literally makes me go WTF! The depth of the love she has for her husband, the way she tracks down the killer and takes her revenge is all too savage.

 

8. Gul Panag- She is a progressive woman and helps her widowed friend to live a beautiful life too!

 

9. Taapsee Pannu- A brave and courageous officer who has put her abusive past behind and continues to fight for the country!

 

10. Tabu- A bar dancer who later becomes the wife of a gangster. After her husband’s death, she raises her kids away from the shady life of the underworld.

 

11. Kangana- The way this character grows during the movie is unbelievable. It teaches us that being independent is empowering in itself.

 

12. Radhika Apte- This Rajasthani Woman stands up to her abusive husband and tries to change the customs of a patriarchal society.

 

13. Richa Chadha- A badass character, she is bold and outspoken and even though Nawazuddin is the protagonist she makes her mark as the mother of the movie!

 

14. Kalki- She plays the modern age Chandramukhi. Chanda is a rebel and lives life on her terms. She also helps the despondent hero fix the broken pieces of his life.

 

15. Sridevi- She is the sweetest mother and the perfect life partner. Her strong resolution to learn English and the way in which she learns to be herself again is something we will always admire.
