Baba Ramdev Takes A Dig At People Criticizing Oxygen Shortage, Asks People To Do Kapalbhati

Several medical authorities and patients across various states have been complaining about the shortage of oxygen cylinders. Many deaths due to the lack of availability of oxygen cylinders to Covid patients have been reported. Amidst the chaos, Baba Ramdev had something to say.

According to a report by Jansatta, a video of Baba Ramdev went viral wherein he can be seen taking a dig at those complaining about the lack of oxygen cylinders.

Advising people to practice breathing exercises such as Pranayam and Kapalbhati, the yoga guru says:

“Bhagwaan ne muft mein oxygen de rakkhi hai. Bhagwaan ne sara brahmand bhar rakkha hai oxygen se.”

This roughly translates to, “God has given us free oxygen. The entire universe is filled with oxygen.”

Baba Ramdev then goes on to point his nose and say that we already have “two oxygen cylinders”, asking people to breathe through them, reports TV9 Marathi.

“There are two cylinders (nostrils) in your body. It fills your body with oxygen.”

Some said the yoga guru’s remarks were “insensitive” and alleged that he’s “misleading” people.

Ever since the pandemic began, there have been many researchers who studied the impact of yoga and breathing exercises on people. They tried to examine if breathing exercises like Pranayam and Kapalbhati did anything to increase the oxygen levels inside a person’s body.

According to one study, breathing exercises were found to increase oxygen saturation rapidly. However, the study seems to have been conducted on non-covid+ subjects.

In another report by TOI, one doctor expressed that breathing exercises don’t really work on covid-positive patients. However, in general, these exercises help in building a lung’s strength. The doctor asked Covid patients not to “forcefully” perform breathing exercises as they might exert the body.

Therefore, it is best to consult a doctor, do extensive research, and fact check before blindly following instructions online.
