Wipro Chairman Azim Premji Is The 3rd Largest Donor For COVID-19 Relief In The World

With the world economy suffering a major hit due to the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown which followed, governments are turning to business tycoons for financial aid. From increasing medical facilities to tackle the virus to making sure daily-wage labourers do not go hungry, financial aid is necessary at this point.

According to Times Now, India’s very own Azim Premji, the Chairman of Wipro, has donated Rs 1,125 crore for coronavirus relief. He is the third-largest donor in the world after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Bill Gates.

Azim Premji is also the only Indian on the list.

Azim Premji donated Rs 100 crore from Wipro, Rs 25 crore from Wipro Enterprises, and Rs 1,000 crore from Azim Premji Foundation.

A statement from Wipro and Azim Premji Foundation said that “these resources will help enable the dedicated medical and service fraternity in the frontline of the battle against the pandemic and in mitigating its wide-ranging human impact,” reports Economic Times.

Forbes has made a list of the top coronavirus relief donors, top 10 of whom are mostly US billionaires. According to The New Indian Express, Twitter Ceo Jack Dorsey has donated 1 billion USD (7585 Cr INR approx). On the other hand, Bill and Melinda Gates have donated 255 million USD (1934 Cr INR approx).
