There have been countless discussions and debates on the topic of marking and grading systems in schools. The way a child’s potential is measured is restricted by academics and superficial benchmarks. And that puts immense pressure on them. Particularly when factors such as dyslexia, ADD, autism and other such conditions are in play. Which is why what this dad did for autistic daughter is so relevant for every parent to understand.
Shane Jackson’s 10-year-old daughter Sophie is incredibly talented. She has autism spectrum disorder, which might make academics slightly difficult to master. But there was no denying Sophie’s mettle!

Yep! Sophie drew that and Shane has been posted some of her amazing drawings on Twitter!
But you know how schools are sometimes all about marks, and grades and academic performance?
Well, Sophie’s recent report card reflected bad grades and the 10-year-old was quite distraught when she saw it. So guess what Shane, her awesome dad, did? He made her a new one!
Shane tweeted the new report card that perfectly graded Sophie on all the right parameters!
My daughter who has ASD received straights Ds on her report today. She cried and said “I’ve let everyone down” this is my report card for her. pic.twitter.com/godh2iiQ88

Awwwww that is the sweetest <3
The tweet went viral because everyone realised that this was parenting done absolutely right!
Not to mention, major #DadGoals!

Guess what? D doesn’t mean a bad grade! It means…
Actually D is for Distinction

A few people shared their own stories of encountering similar moments and doing exactly what Shane had done!
Thanks Shane. You just gave me the solution to my year 6 son's reports. So proud of him, at this moment he is on stage, in combined schools band. Band playing in a night of local High School school performing Arts.I drew the short straw, had to stay home and look after twins.

I’m not crying, you’re crying!
You sir made me cry. Your handwriting looks identical to my father's who has been gone for almost 9 years … He once too gave me something like this …

If you’re wondering whether little Sophie’s happy now, here’s proof. Since her dad did something so amazing and passed the parenting test with flying colours, Sophie made a report card for her dad in return!
And what do you know, it’s PERFECT too!
