Readers Slam American Author For ‘Insulting’ Indian Women In Her Book

Books tend to mirror society, or that is what many readers believe. So when some authors express their prejudices against a certain race or class of people, it could leave a lasting impact on readers. Say for example how women of colour are represented in some of the American and British literature – one cannot deny the existence of a certain amount of fetishization or stigmatization.

Speaking of which, readers on Reddit have been calling out an American author named Em Wolf for “insulting” Indian women in her book ‘Tangled’. One user took to the social media platform to post a screenshot of a particular segment from the book which says that Indian women are “…okay. But they’ve got nothing on American beauties.”

Readers slammed the author for being racist and insensitive. Many came forward as being Indian themselves and finding that bit of the book a major hit to their self-esteem. A few others pointed out that one shouldn’t bring down a certain kind of women to praise the other.
