Was Karan Johar The Real Reason For Arnab Goswami To Quit Times Now? His Interview Hints So.

The most outspoken journalist of India, Arnab Goswami created quite a stir when he decided to quit ‘Times Now’ and subsequently, his iconic debate show. ‘The Newshour’. While the nation is still looking out for the launch of his own venture, ‘Republic’, Arnab made the headlines by doing a cover shoot for Mansworld magazine.

Answering questions for his cover story interview, Arnab paid no heed to be politically correct or use the defensive strategy. Just like his TV debates, he was bold and blunt in expressing his views.

When asked about the ideological differences between ‘Republic’ and his previous employers, Arnab took a jibe at TOI’s ‘Aman Ki Asha’ initiative.

“NDTV and Times Now can do what they want. I don’t have any advice for them. You are referring to corporate media houses. I’m referring to Republic. Republic is a content-run enterprise, where content is king. We will not sell news. We will not sell our equivalent of the front page. We will not take land from political parties and go soft on them. We will not fund India-Pakistan peace initiatives as a funding strategy for the organisation. We are a pro-people organisation.”

Answering the million-dollar question, Arnab finally revealed the reason he left Times Now for good. From his answer, seems like he was hinting at Karan Johar for the ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ fiasco.

“Let me say that I did not want to make things uncomfortable for them anymore. I don’t believe in journalism in which a film director can call up a media proprietor and then shivers go down the spine of the media proprietor. I have taken on a lot of people in this country. I have broken a lot of scams. I have taken on powerful people and terrorist groups. And I feel truly sad when some film director calls up a media proprietor and says, ‘Why is this channel asking questions about me, and about why Pakistani artists are acting in my film?’ and the media proprietor gets scared. That’s very unfortunate.”

During the interview, Arnab also didn’t forget to diss his ‘primetime spot rival’ Barkha Dutt. The two journalists have openly criticised each other in the past and it was no different this time.

“I feel Barkha Dutt should check her facts. Barkha Dutt was openly praised by a person called Hafiz Saeed. While I’m nobody to comment on people, if people begin to distract attention from the praise of Hafiz Saeed by imagining that I’ve taken their name — these people should first stop imagining I’ve taken their name.”

While he was at it, Arnab also swung his bat at Congress and if we are guessing right, Rahul Gandhi. He also dismissed that he is soft on the BJP.

“I would say that the Congress is very harsh on itself. It has a leader of proven incompetence. As far as the BJP is concerned, I think Lalitgate was the only big story that questioned the BJP government in the last 2.5 years, and I did that story. So I don’t know who’s asking these questions.”

Seems like Arnab has opened a can of worms with the interview. Let’s see if any (of the many) people he has spoken about, has to say anything about him.
