The Band Baaja Baaraat actor said she will be doing it for her fellow living beings. She even added that as humans we have a voice to speak up, we have fundamental rights, we can ask for justice and have near and dear ones to take care of us, however, animals aren’t as lucky.

She shared the wise words of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama saying that they have stayed with her and touched a core in her heart. He said,

“Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to man. Just as one wants happiness and fears pain, just as one wants to live and not die, so do other creatures.”

To put his words into action Anushka is opening this shelter for the abandoned and the dejected animals so that they are protected, loved, and nurtured. There they will treated as equal beings with equal rights and given equal affection.

Anushka was also won PETA’s person of the year award in December 2017 for going beyond the call of duty for the cause. She has clearly dedicated her energy and time to a cause close to her heart.

In fact, she along with her doggo Dude even promoted animal blood donation, a cause most pet parents don’t even know exist.

She has earlier extensively promoted a cracker free Diwali so that animals are not troubled. Due to the massive noise pollution on the festival animals across India can suffer from hearing damage or general discomfort.

Anushka’s brand Nush too is cruelty free.

She has earlier voiced her clear disdain for horses being used in Mumbai on tourist spots for carriages. She took to Twitter to call for a ban on this cruelty.
