Gender equality is a precondition for development and there are many NGO’s to celebrities who vouch for this and fought for and against it. It still remains an unfulfilled promise.
Anupam Kher, an acclaimed Indian actor, has now been appointed as the UN Ambassador for Gender equality campaign named HeForShe.
He will now collaborate with the world to stand up and also address the inequalities against men and women which would consequently end the violence and discrimination. This is a proud moment for India.
He was named an Ambassador by UN Women Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri last evening. He feels honoured. He observed and pointed that change begins at home and sons and daughters should be treated equally.
He was ecstatic and tweeted:

His idea of masculinity is different. He doesn’t go by the stereotypical meaning of masculinity as overpowering women. “Weak men show their masculinity to women. A powerful and strong man will never do that, he will allow the women to be powerful,” he said.
What is HeForShe campaign?
Gender Equality was earlier conceived as a struggle led only by women and for women. But now men have also started addressing this issue and voicing their opinion equally. They are finally taking a stand. And that is what that makes this campaign a class apart – the idea of men fighting for women’s economic empowerment.
First, Emma Watson, a British actress was tapped in as the UN Goodwill Ambassador as they believed that she embodies the values required for this campaign.
