Ditching An Inheritance Of $300 Million, A Tycoon’s Daughter Married The Man She LOVED!

“We are shaped and fashioned by what we love.”

We are a reflection of the things/people we love. Love can be materialistic, but for some it might just reside in simple little things. But here’s a situation and you’ve to answer the good ol’ question; what would you choose, riches or love?

But imagine this, you have grown with bodyguards around you, were followed by people who were ready to serve you, had everything you’ve ever wished for, had home in over three continents and private jets to go places; would you still give up your comfort, lifestyle, and riches for love?

The answer is a big fat yes from Angeline Francis Khoo, who is the blessed daughter of Malaysian tycoon, Khoo Kay Peng, and former Miss Malaysia, Pauline Chai. According to Forbes, her father’s net worth is around $300 million.

In 2008, Angeline left everything only to marry the man she loved. She was at the Oxford University when she fell irrevocably in love with Caribbean-born data scientist, Jedidiah Francis.

When she told her father, he disapproved of the match. She was the 4th of the 5 children of Peg and Chai. She knew that if she wanted to marry the man she loved, she would have to give up everything. Opening-up about the time in an interview with DailyMail, she said,

“I believed Dad’s stance was wrong, so there was no question about what was right. I’ve been fortunate to have that perspective: you can have money and it’s a blessing; it allows you to do things and gives you options, but there are also things that come with it, such as control.”

“Money amplifies negative characteristics and that can cause problems. To walk away from that was actually very easy. I didn’t even consider it.”

Moving in with her husband, whom she lovingly calls Jed, was tough for Angeline. But love made it simpler. Someone who had surplus money to spend now had to live in a budget. Talking about how her life completely changed, she said,

I always had a budget, but it became critical. To me it was the hardest but the best time of our lives. I think Jed would say the same. It was the most bonding; it gives you a foundation.

Mum was really good about making us aware of people in less fortunate circumstances, but unless you experience what it’s like to worry about how you’re going to pay for your food and bills, you can’t ever really get it.”

Angeline’s story came to light again as her parents split. Malaysian press covered the divorce extensively. Angeline supported her mom throughout the split as she was the one who supported all the children when her father was busy minting dollars. Talking about her father, she said,

“He was only around once or twice a year. We knew that when he came we would be called into his office and given a list of things to fix: “Your grades are not good enough, you’re not behaving, you’re not presenting yourself properly.”

“He had everything: a loyal, beautiful, smart wife, and children who love him regardless of whether he has money or not. I feel that at his age he’s vulnerable. When you don’t have that much longer ahead of you, you shouldn’t spend your days being angry and resentful.”

She wants to maintain a cordial relationship with her father. 78-year-old Peng has a thriving business and is still working non-stop.

Angeline is leading a very happy and fulfilling life with her partner Jed for almost 10 years now. They have been with each other through thick and thin.

Their’s a story we’ve only heard in books. May you always love like this, Angeline and Jed!
