Amaal Malik Says Anu Malik Is Not Family, Asks Sona Mohapatra To Take Allegations To Court

As a result of the #MeToo movement that stormed Bollywood last year, several renowned celebrities in the industry have been ripped apart with charges of sexual harassment and misbehavior with women. Out of the many names that popped up in the list of ‘sexual predators’, popular music director, Anu Malik, was a significant one.

Just to give you a recap, Malik was accused by singer Sona Mohapatra for calling her at odd hours. She went on to claim that the 58-year-old also referred to her as ‘maal’ in front of her husband Ram Sampath.

Sona’s charges were soon followed by Shweta Pandit, who opened up about Anu Malik demanding a kiss from her when she was just 15.

While Anu Malik has denied the allegations completely, his nephew and popular singer Amaal Malik has finally opened up on the matter.

According to Hindustan Times, Amaal Malik admitted being humiliated by the shocking revelations against his uncle. Adding to his statement, Amaal said that he doesn’t consider Anu Malik as his family.

“When it happened, it is obviously a little humiliating. But, more importantly, I would like to say that my family is first my four people. Beyond that, I don’t count anyone as a family. Unki apni family (he has his own family) hai and it was a tough time for them.”

Standing firm by Sona Mohapatra, the 27-year-old musician said that she is close to the lady there must be some truth in her statements.

“I’m close to Sona Mohapatra, if she has said about Anu Malik there must be a reason. And if there is a reason they should move to the court.”

Having said that, Amaal urged Sona and other women to take the help of the court instead of opting for social media as a platform to speak about their traumatic experiences.

“I support the movement and I’m completely with it. What happens is, when people talk on social media, it goes a little wrong. When you have alleged someone and taken their name, you should drag it to the court and through the judicial system, try to achieve what you want to achieve. Because if you don’t take it ahead then why did you even do this in the first place.”

And guess what? It did not take time for Sona Mohapatra to respond to Amaal Malik’s advice. In a tweet of hers, she pointed out that it is not only the court’s duty to take action against such vulgarity but also the responsibility of the women to open up and try to stop such menace.

It is to be noted that Anu Malik was fired as a judge by Indian Idol following the allegations of sexual misconduct against him. However, Amaal is set to appear as a judge in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs.
