This year’s Met Gala was extremely special for Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt as it was her debut appearance on the red carpet. Many people think that she did justice to her first appearance as she walked at the fundraiser event wearing an ivory silk tulle and basque waist ball gown embellished with 100,000 hand-beaded pearls by Prabal Gurung, paying homage to the late designer of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld.

And while she was having the best time of her life posing for scores of cameras at one of the biggest fashion events in the world, some of the Western paparazzi was seen addressing her as Aishwarya Rai while giving her instructions to pose for them on the carpet.
A video that has now surfaced online shows Alia at the stairs of the coveted carpet with her designer Prabal Gurung. Alia waited for the cameras and posed while Prabal helped her with the dress before taking off. This is when the New York paparazzi mistook her for Aishwarya Rai.

The fact that Aishwarya Rai has had such a huge impact internationally is laud-worthy. Her Cannes red carpet look is something that people still remember. But, it also highlights how the media, be it Western or Indian, is incompetent and negligent of other emerging stars.
