Alaya F Says She’s Not ‘Fully Nepo Baby’ As Her Mom Pooja Bedi Quit Acting Before She Was Born

The debate around nepotism in Bollywood is still buzzing around. In fact, whenever people talk about the Hindi film industry and the ills of it, they often seem to touch base with this topic even though a lot of B-town celebs have already opined on it, some for and some against it.

Earlier, ‘nepotism’ started trending on Twitter when the teaser of  ‘The Archies’ dropped that featured Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor.

After Bhagyashree’s Son Abhimanyu Dassani, it’s the daughter of actor Pooja Bedi, Alaya F, who has a different take on nepotism.

Alaya, who is also the granddaughter of veteran actor Kabir Bedi, and is hence considered a ‘nepo baby’ said that ‘there are levels of nepotism’.

“I don’t count myself as a fully nepo baby, because you need to understand there are different levels in that. My mother was done with the industry, she had quit acting before I was born. I have not grown up among industry parties, that’s not been my life. So sometimes it does get frustrating because there are levels of nepotism,” The Indian Express quoted her saying.

Acknowledging that her privilege does help her, she said that it doesn’t necessarily get the job done for her.

“At the end of the day, I do come from privilege and that’s half of someone else’s journey. It does get me into rooms but it doesn’t really guarantee me movies. But reaching there is the hardest part. While I won’t deny the access, it’s the merit that takes one ahead. You may agree or disagree, I am a nepo baby but it’s unfair to base everything I do to put it on where I come from. I have tried so hard to do much more and continuously do good work.”

The 25-year-old said that unlike earlier when actors had to hustle for roles, the race isn’t there anymore.

“I do agree that there’s no race. The types of roles and opportunities today are wide. Also, everyone has a distinct identity, and no one needs to clover or fight anymore. There are enough movies and shows. Also, with the age of social media, the whole mystery is not there anymore. We are just people out there, who are doing good work, and hoping to make the most of every role, opportunity, and post.”
