Imagine yourself trapped in an airplane 20 minutes after it has left the ground. All the ACs cease to work. Can you deal with such uneasiness? That high up, where oxygen is already scarce – every minute might feel like a bad dream you don’t want to be a part of.
168 passengers of Air India’s AI-880, who left from Bagdogra, West Bengal to reach Delhi, at 1:55 PM were subjected to a similar nightmare. 20 minutes into the flight, the AC stopped working. A passenger took the video of people on the plane, fanning themselves to deal with the suffocation.

The distressed crowd can be seen fanning themselves with papers and pamphlets for relief. A displeased gentleman can be clearly heard saying that the flight crew has asked them not to make videos. He also goes on to say that they have payed money and did not deserve such kind of treatment.
Debasmita Basak, who was on the flight spoke to CNN-News 18Â and said that the commuters were complaining of breathlessness and uneasiness. She also added that when one passenger tried to use the oxygen mask, it wasn’t working.
“We conveyed the same to a flight attendant and she said the issue will get resolved in some time. After landing at the Delhi airport (at 3:50pm), the passengers waited for the captain and the crew members. It took them a long time to come out”
The crew was well aware of the problem and throughout the flight, passengers’ complaints and pleas were ignored. When reached for a statement, Air India said that it was a technical issue and they have initiated an inquiry.
