Racing adrenaline and rising tempers are often a staple on the cricket pitch. But it isn’t our hot-headed captain or men in blue who are in social media crosshairs this time around. It’s Sarfraz Ahmed, captain of Pakistan cricket team who made a scandalous remark.
Pakistan lost to South Africa in the second one-day international on Tuesday in Durban. Unbeaten half-centuries from SA’s Rassie van der Dussen and Andile Phehlukwayo guided the hosts to a five-wicket victory. However, a shocking incident of racism marred the ODI. It occurred halfway through the 37th over of South Africa’s tense chase.
Andile Phehlukwayo inside-edged a Shaheen Afridi delivery and ran off to the non-striker’s end. That’s when Sarfraz Ahmed, captain of Pakistan cricket team, was caught clearly on the stump mics saying, in Urdu-
“Abey kaale, teri ammi aaj kahaan baitheen huyi hain? Kya parhwa ke aaye hai aaj tu?”
The cricketer could be in serious trouble after making the racist remark against South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo. The comment was even discussed by the commentators. Take a look at the tweeted video where you can hear Ahmed’s comment.

Fortuitously, Andile didn’t seem to grasp the gist of the jibe. But Sarfraz is facing a serious backlash on social media for his comment. Here’s what Twitterati has to say about it!
Obviously he is being total moron, and I'm sure ICC will take notice of this, I was laughing on the stuff he said after first couple of words. #SayNoToRacism

For him to say that is disgusting especially as a captain. What kind of leadership is that. He has definitely cross a line here. This is sledging gone wrong.

Nevertheless, there were some who stood by the Pak cricketer.
It's not racism, he is appreciating his survival.
kaale is being used as nickname given by parents or friends also in this part of world.

Then there were parallels drawn to Pandya’s foot in the mouth moment on Koffee with Karan.
Sarfraz may have just pulled off a Pandya here.

Arguably, this could be true!
The most hated in Pakistan right now Hassan bhai ❤️🤗

On a serious note, the man could face disciplinary action should match officials investigate, reports DNA. Ahmed’s comments could be punishable under the ICC code of conduct for player behaviour or even the ICC’s anti-racism code.
