Dad Makes Strict Rules For 23-YO Son Who’s Living At Home & Refuses To Do Housework

Living at home with parents can be one of the few joys of adulthood. But it can be the bane of your existence if you are into ‘sirf araam and no kaam’ around the house. Lounging around on the sofa and idly watching TV can feel like a sin when parents come home tired from a hard day of work. And being mom’s happy helper doing ‘safai’ every weekend just feels mandatory.

But it looks like one millennial didn’t get the memo. His dad took to Reddit sharing his woes and revealed that his 23-year-old son moved back home after graduating from college because he could not afford to pay rent.

“He said it was temporary but he’s been here for 4 months and that’s not what bothers me but the fact that he adds to our expenses and hasn’t started working and doesn’t help in any capacity. In other words, he’s become a burden,” the dad wrote.

He reveals that his wife wasn’t keen on compelling their son to get on his feet. Nevertheless, the dad had a talk with his son and gave him a timeline for starting work or helping around the house. Until then, he’d have to follow some house rules.

Take a look at some of the simple rules his dad asked Chris to follow.

  1. He’d have to do basic tasks like washing his own clothes.
  2. Washing his own dishes.
  3. He must not complain about what’s for lunch/dinner and be grateful for the food.
  4. Not use WiFi more than 6 hours a day.
  5. No access to free Netflix subscriptions or YouTube Live unless he pays for it.

The dad explained, “He blew up complaining about how ridiculous and unfair my rules were and reminded me he’s not a child anymore but I told him a child or not, as long as he lives under my roof then he’s expected to follow the owner’s rules.”

On realizing that his dad wouldn’t back down, Chris sought his mother’s help to escape the rules. However his father had a word with his mom. “I refused and told her she was enabling his unacceptable behavior and it was only teaching our younger daughter to be a lazy and irresponsible adult.

People on Reddit lauded the dad for his tough regime and slammed the son for being ungrateful.
