The world of cinema is no longer dominated by men. Female actors, directors, producers, singers etc are making their mark in the industry with their talent and versatility. They have created powerful content and displayed that they are just as bankable as their male counterparts at the box-office.
Which is why the Twitterati was outraged when Reuters reported that Kirsten Dunst received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame by calling her “Spiderman’s girlfriend”. People pointed out that the award-winning actress has been in the profession since age 12 and her body of work is much more elaborate than what the tweet gave her credit for. Eventually, they deleted the tweet and replaced the video. But what it sparked was the “Could Do, Couldn’t Do” meme.
Essentially, people started sharing the roles of male actors that female actors “could do” and compared them with the roles of female actors that male actors “couldn’t do”. Rani Mukherjee and Tabu were celebrated and compared to the Khans of Bollywood.

Hollywood actress Meryl Streep’s acting prowess was applauded and so were the skills of Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Lena Headey. People said they could do justice to the characters played by Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr.

Kudos to women no longer being accessories or second fiddles in movies. We hope to see more and more of these ladies and their powerful roles in the future.
