The temperatures are skyrocketing with every passing day and while we crib about the soaring mercury, sitting inside our air-conditioned rooms, there are some brave-hearts who man the roads to make them safer for the citizens even in this sweltering heat.
These are our traffic policemen who are left with no choice but to handle the chaotic and rapidly increasing vehicular traffic, in extreme weather conditions.
However, taking cognisance of the hard work that the cops do in such unpredictable conditions, Chhattisgarh Police decided to provide its traffic and field officers with air-conditioned helmets to beat the heat.
In a first, the Chhattisgarh Police Department is testing air-conditioned helmets and after acquiring desired results, the helmets will be provided to the police force doing field duty.
“We will be using two such helmets on a pilot basis. If it’s trial yields desired result, we will consider to have it for all field staff, mainly those doing traffic and security duty,” Director General of Chhattisgarh Police D M Awasthi told PTI.

The battery operated helmet that also uses a chip will reportedly be manufactured by an Indian entrepreneur.
D M Awasthi further added, “As the boss of the state police force, I am committed to ensure welfare of fields staff. This is a step towards that direction. Due to high-temperature many cops fall sick or face other health-related problems.”
The weather conditions are going to get worse in the next few days.
We hope the helmets get clearance soon and the initiative is replicated across the country to provide relief to the police personnel from the scorching summer heat.
