This Is The First Sanitary Pad Ad That Shows Red Period Blood

Amongst all the pain a woman endures in her lifetime, menstrual pain is arguably the most hushed and the most ignored one. I know this because I am one and I say this because period pain is not just the physical discomfort but a million other things including the stigma attached to it.

The stigma that not only endangers a woman’s right to hygiene but also makes her a subject of period shaming. And the same monthly plight that is only talked about in whispers and under layers of neatly wrapped newspapers. But I’m not sure whose misplaced disgust is worse- the sellers or the makers who won’t even show realistic period blood while advertising it! BLUE? REALLY?

But, and I couldn’t be happier, we now have an exemption. A sanitary pad company, Bodyform has finally decided to break the mould by showing period blood and it’s a win for us all!

As a part of its #bloodnormal campaign, the company is challenging the taboo with a revolutionary advertisement that poses as a big agent of change.

The ad not only shatters the myth but even shows men in the light that we have wanted to see for long. That’s right, the ad features a man buying pads without flinching or making faces.

Not just that, we can also see period blood running down a woman’s leg while she’s showering and it is probably the boldest (honest) mainstream advertising can ever be.

Well, this is not the first time, Bodyfrom as a company has gone out to drive the point home. Earlier, in 2016, it was the first company to show real-life sanitary pads/towels in TV advertising.

While this a humble start, we have a long way to go before we can get rid of the social evil that is period shaming. Until then the hope to see more follow suit is what I’m clutching to.
