This Delhi Restaurant Distributes NOT Leftovers But Freshly Made Food Among The Poor For Free

Whenever we have food leftover after a fancy meal at a restaurant, our first instinct is to pack it up and donate it to a poor person we might find along the way back home. Although a deed done with noble intentions, we never really consider what health hazards these poor folk might be exposed to by consuming simply leftover food day after day.

This restaurant in Delhi has taken up the charitable initiative, ‘Rasoi on Wheels’, to serve not leftover, but freshly prepared hot food among those who are unable to afford two square meals a day.

The initiative is the brainchild of Atul Kapur, one of five business partners running the QBA Restaurant in Connaught Place.

The meal box that is distributed usually contains Poha or Paratha for breakfast, thalis for lunch, and even burgers and pizzas as snacks.

When Rasoi on Wheels started, they had distributed around 11,000 meals in their first month. However, today, they distribute over 30,000 meals a month, which around 1,000 per day!

The initiative includes an 800 sq ft kitchen where the meals are prepared and a converted Maruti Van which distributes these meals among the poor.

Atul Kapur, we applaud your efforts! Brilliant initiative!
