Meet Ian Grillot, The Man Who Took Bullets To His Chest To Save 2 Indians In Kansas Shooting

The recent Kansas shooting is the most unfortunate incident that can happen in this age we live in. Such hate crimes have become a sad reality. The Indian engineer, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, who was killed was only 32 years old. He had his whole life in front of him. And he lost his life, why? Because of a fundamentalist notion of a crazy person. This is not done. It is not at all acceptable.

Amidst all the shooting, there was another heroic American man who tried to save the two engineers, who were attacked.

Meet Ian Grillot. When Adam Purinton, 51, shouted, “get out of my country” at the two Hyderabad engineers, Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani and opened fire, Ian intervened and tried to take away the gun.

 

During the attack, Ian was gravely injured. The shooter shot at Ian’s chest, hands and neck. He was rushed to the hospital. He is now out of danger and believes that he is “incredibly lucky” to survive.

“I was just doing what anyone should have done. It’s not about where he’s from, or ethnicity. We’re all humans.”

“The next thing I remember being in the hospital.”

 

Srinivas and Alok were the two young men who were shot. Srinivas lost his life to this brutal hate attack but Alok was immensely lucky to have survived. He visited Ian in the hospital along with his wife who is 5 months pregnant. Ian said, “It put the biggest smile on my face in the last 24 hours.”

“The gentleman who survived came to meet me. His wife was five months pregnant. It is terrible to lose a friend. “

Adam Purinton fled the spot and was arrested about five hours later, 80 km from Olathe, hiding in a bar. Such incidents are not only anti-humanity but they are also completely senseless.

The fundamentalists should think about the kind of harm they are doing not only to the person but also to their families. Ian Grillot is no less than a hero!
