One would find it hard to believe that India, a nation which has given mathematicians like Srinivas Ramanujan, scientists like APJ Abdul Kalam and business tycoons like Ratan Tata, is still struggling on the front of providing quality education to a majority of its population. With a literacy rate of just over 74%, India lags behind a majority of developing nations in the world. But when news about people like Rubi Rai surface, who top their exams without even knowing the names of their subjects, you know that it is the corrupt system that has ruined the state of education in our nation.
In this video uploaded by Hindustan Times, an invigilator at Government Girls Senior Secondary School conducting class 10 board exams in Jhajjar, Haryana is seen helping students cheat by telling them the answers to the questions. On seeing the camera, the teacher quickly hides the sheet of paper with answers written on it. After seeing the video, Satbir Siwach, District Education Officer of Jhajjar has ordered an enquiry and relieved the teacher from the duty.
How can we expect our nation to progress if the teachers themselves get involved in such shameful acts openly? Fortunately, this incident got reported, but what about the many others that would have remained hidden from the eyes of the media?
