No, the shop doesn’t exist in some parallel universe. It’s for real.
This shop is located in Bengaluru and it’s unmanned; running exclusively on customer’s trust. All a customer has to do is deposit money in the attached piggy banks or they can pay whenever they want to.
It’s located in Bharat Golf View Apartments at the Old Airport Road.
- You choose a product
- You pay by yourself
- No sales person involved
- You can pay whenever you feel comfortable
- 24×7 access
- Food is replenished everyday
So, who is behind these shops which run exclusively on trust?
The founder of the iD Shops, PC Mustafa is behind this concept. Such shops are called ‘Trust Shop.’
There are 17 such shops across the city and they sell breakfast/ lunch items: idli/dosa batter, wheat chapatis, and Malabar parottas.
More ‘Trust Shops’ will be launched in Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi.
Here’s what he said:
Do customers really end up paying the exact cost price of the product?
Turns out, yes.
Mustafa pointed out that the collections are 90% on an average, but on some days, it rises to 100% and above.
In case you are surprised, this is not a new concept at all. Mizoram has been a home to unmanned shops like these which sell vegetables, fruits, and dried fish.
Yes. According to Acchi Khabre, it’s not exactly a shop, but a hut which sells these items and it’s called ‘Nghah lou dawr’ (meaning, shop without attendants). The buyers put their money inside a container.
Isn’t this amazing that these shops are banking on people’s trust?
I cannot wait to go there. 😀
