Arnab Goswami was back with a bang on the small screen with his new venture Republic TV, and now it is creating more noise than ever. After unveiling and bringing to light many exposés, the channel head and his colleague, Prema Sridevi are now slapped with a copyright infringement case by both their former employers, Times Now.
Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL), the parent company of Times Now has filed a complaint against Arnab Goswami and Prema Sridevi, for stealing and infringing upon the channel’s intellectual property.
The tapes, broadcast during the Sunanda Pushkar-Shashi Tharoor’s exposé, showed Prema Sridevi in conversation with Narayan (the house help). Arnab claimed that they were in possession of the tapes for the past two years, which was the time both Sridevi and Goswami were journalists at Times Now.
On the first day of Republic TV’s launch, in the episode, the tapes used for Lalu Prasad and former MP Shahabuddin (currently imprisoned) were also said to be Times Now properties.
According to an Economic Times report,
During an internal enquiry, it was revealed that the tapes were procured by Arnab and Prema while they were still employed at the news channel. Not only that, the channel has also filed charges against the two for dishonestly misappropriating the said intellectual property, “thereby committing the offence of criminal misappropriation of property punishable under section 403 of IPC and several other provisions under applicable laws.”
And, the nation wants to know the truth!
