Take It Away From Me If You Want: Akshay Kumar Speaks Up On National Award Controversy

This year finally brought Akshay Kumar, one of the finest in Bollywood, his due! Thanks to the 64th National Awards, the ‘khiladi’ was bestowed with the best actor award for ‘Rustom’ and it couldn’t have been better. Even wife, Twinkle Khanna was ecstatic and overwhelmed with emotions at his win.

But, Twitter wasn’t very pleased. Yes, head of the jury, Priyadarshan took Akshay’s side and his win but it only got worse from there, with the influx of a lot of criticism. Now, Akshay has finally opened up about the entire episode and addressed the elephant in the room!

Recently, Akshay was attending an event in Mumbai where he spoke about the ruckus over his win with nothing but honesty. He said,

“I am observing this from last 25 years, whenever someone wins the award (National Award) there’s always a debate and someone starts a controversy on whether someone should have or shouldn’t have won the award. I have got this award after 26 years. If someone doesn’t want me to get this award, if you feel like, please go ahead and take it away from me.”

He told the media so at the Movie Stunt Artists’ Association event in Mumbai where Akshay announced death compensation and insurance for 380 stunt artists.

Earlier, Akshay had also vouched that whatever he has achieved till date is because of his hard-work and dedication and not flattery of any kind!

“ITNA KEH SAKTA HUN MAI KI YE AWARD BHI MAINE IMANDARI SE JITA HAI. MAINE AAJ TAK CHEATING NAHI KI. NEITHER HAVE I EVER MADE A CALL TO ANYONE TO WIN AN AWARD NOR HAVE GIVEN MONEY OR DONE FAVOURS FOR IT.”

It’s not like I’m a trade expert but I sure am a religious movie-buff and Akshay’s words reflect the exact conviction with which he delivers his craft, unflinchingly! You have our respect, Akshay and you will always do.
