Kashmiri Muslim Couple Defied Curfew And Walked Miles To Bring Food For Their Pandit Friend

It’s a little perturbing to find a considerable section of our society condemning secularism as an anti-nationalist trait. Secularism is one of the pillars of a democratic society and by denying it, they’re actually denying democracy. So, do they want to go back and live in a feudal structure without any rights whatsoever?

Therefore, it’s always interesting to see humble people of modest background proving to have much liberal worldview than most educated fools in India!

While the entire Kashmir stands still over a curfew imposed after the unrest broke out over the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, a Kashmiri woman and her husband broke all restrictions to feed their Pandit friend!

Meet Zubeda, who couldn’t sit still after receiving a phone call from her friend who needed food supplies. So, she packed her bags full of food and decided to walk the deserted roads of Srinagar with her husband to reach her friend across the river Jhelum.

With all shops closed, no transport and limited movement of people as imposed by the police, the forces didn’t seem to be in her favour but that doesn’t let Zubeda step back.

“She had called me in the morning saying her family needed food supplies. They have an ailing grandmother staying with them. I am taking the food to them. It is difficult but we are trying to reach them,” Zubeda said.

“Everyone is suffering here. We are so glad that these people came here. This is where the humanity lies,” said Diwanchand Pandit, the friend in need.

Diwanchand has been living in the Valley for several years now with his family. He’s employed at the All India Radio and his wife works at a local school where Zubeda works as well. That’s all the acquaintance Zubeda needed to help a friend out in such times of distress.

In these times of trouble, such acts of kindness and camaraderie are on what thrives humanity.
