Isn’t it annoying when people casually toss their trash on the streets or in public places? Not only do such individuals dirty their surroundings but they also waste the efforts of those who spend hours keeping their neighborhood clean.
Recently, two youths were made to return 80kms to pick up the trash they had thrown on the highway while traveling, reports Banglore Mirror. After locals complained about the littering, the youths had to travel back all the way from Madikeri to clean the pizza packets they had casually thrown on the streets.
General Secretary of Kodagu Tourism Association mentioned how he along with the members of the Kadagadalu gram panchayat maintained the cleanliness in the area. However, vehicle users still littered the place. He was quoted saying, “I was keeping a close watch in the area to curb the garbage menace on our hill station. When I was returning home on Friday, I noticed some pizza packets tossed on the side of the road. I felt like all our efforts were in vain.”
On inspecting the trash he found a bill with the person’s number. He immediately called and requested the person to return to the spot and clean their litter. However, the person on the phone simply apologized but refused to come. They informed him that they were already out of Coorg (Kodagu). The secretary then called the police.

However, even as the cops failed to convince the youths, they resorted to using social media campaigns to correct the wrong. Several people called the duo and asked them to bring back their litter after their phone number was shared online. Embarrassed, the duo returned back around 80 km.
Many people online applauded the unique move by the authorities.
Awesome… These kind of strict enforcements will raise the needed awareness. People who create such mess and are just bothered about themselves and do not care for a better society.

These are urban fellows going on weekend joy rides to pristine places and wrecking them too. Good this shaming worked. Civic sense is zero in the urban so called educated fellows who can pay 500 rupees for a pizza but have no sense to dispose of their own trash properly.

Well, littering is a bad habit and we should be held responsible for keeping our surroundings clean. What do you think of this moral policing? Tell us.
