Yami Gautam Says There’s No #CoupleGoals In Real Life, Only Looks Good On Social Media

Whenever I scroll through Instagram, I find pictures of couples travelling, going on dates, and experiencing all these adventures together under the hashtag #couplegoals. It almost feels like there is a prerequisite for couples to be a certain way, a kind of ideal for them to achieve in order to be a successful couple, whatever that means.

But speaking to TOI, Yami Gautam explained that there is nothing called #couplegoals or #powercouple. According to her, it just looks good on social media and one shouldn’t set it as a bar for their own marriage.

“You should never look for examples as no one can be a reference for your own marriage. All these so-called #CoupleGoals or #PowerCouple only look good on social media. Aisa kuch nahi hota hai. As a couple, just be yourself, share this life and make it beautiful for one another,” she said.

Yami Gautam, who got married to ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ director Aditya Dhar in an intimate ceremony in Himachal last year, revealed that her relationship with her husband is that of empowering one another and celebrating each other’s success.

“For us, it is all about empowering one another, celebrating each other’s success and just being there for the other. The key is not to overthink unnecessarily because expectations and over-thinking only lead to problems. The idea of getting married made me happy. Even on the day of my marriage, I wasn’t nervous, but very excited. We both were very sure, and our families were happy, and that was important for us,” she said.

After marriage, both husband and wife have been busy with their own projects. But they try to squeeze in time for each other.

“Since the time we got married, both of us have been working, yet it is fun to squeeze in time to cook for each other and watch movies together,” Yami said.

Isn’t this what marriage is all about?
