Sexual assault is one of the most standard news you’ll read on almost a daily basis in today’s world. What’s worse than sexual assault- trivializing sexual assault. It’s become so mundane that one just scrolls through the news story, thinking ‘Another rape. Uff!’
In another sexual assault case, a 22-year-old woman in Boisar was allegedly raped by two neighbours. She consumed acid, battling for her life for seven months and died in Palghar on Sunday.
In a report by Hindustan Times the woman was a UP resident who moved to a chawl in Bosair after getting married in 2015. Neither families accepted their relationship and left the couple with no choice but to move elsewhere. Her husband worked as a catering contractor and had left her alone for work commitments when the mishap occurred.
The police inspector K Hegaje who is investigating the case said that the alleged rapists, Sandeep Yadav and Shivam Yadav who had been eyeing the woman for a while. They took her aside into a secluded area under the guise of asking about her husband and raped her.
The alleged abusers threatened to shoot and murder her with a pistol and knife in their hands and left her on the road after the incident. They terrorized her by saying that the entire incident had been recorded and would leak it online if she decided to lodge a complaint with the police.
The day her husband was to return, she swallowed acid and attempted suicide. She was rushed to the hospital by him where it was apparent that she had been raped. He filed a report with the Boisar MIDC police against the two accused. An official said,
“We had arrested the two for gang rape, kidnapping, blackmailing and they are lodged in the Thane Central Jail.”
Dr. Apeksha Mhatre, the medical officer said,
“Her food pipe was badly damaged and we tried our best to save her, but couldn’t. She had lost weight and was undergoing mental trauma due to the incident.”
This horrifying incident is just adding to the pile of many other sexual assault cases against women in the country. Our prayers and love with the victim’s husband, whose plight is difficult to imagine right now.
