20 Whales Stranded On A Beach! Watch Beachgoers Attempt Rescue In Viral Video

The condition of animals around the world is pitiful. Humans and our exploitation
of nature has affected the animals in the most devastating way. But a few noble souls restore our faith in humanity by their prompt and kind gestures towards animals.

And, a recent case of humanity at its best came to light in Georgia where a group of beachgoers volunteered to help rescuers to save a pod of beached whales.

Dixie McCoy, who was present at the spot told CNN that at least 20 whales came near the shore of St. Simons Island’s East Beach. He also shared a live video of the entire incident on Facebook. The pod of whales had come 50 feet offshore with some of them trying to beach themselves repeatedly.

“As we arrived at the beach, we noticed a group of people in the water. At first, we thought they had dolphins doing some sort of show. As we got closer, we couldn’t believe what we saw. It was so sad to see so many whales on the beach. Everyone was trying so hard to get them back in the water”, Dixie narrated.

Most of the whales managed to swim back in the sea while a just 3 that remained stuck on the beach died. Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wildlife biologist Clay George was quoted as saying, “That’s a spooky situation because most of those animals are probably healthy and just followed others to the shore. Most of them luckily remained in shallow water. If they had beached themselves, they probably would have all ended up dead.”

“They are highly social animals and will frequently follow leaders and attempt to congregate around sick or injured individuals,” DNR added. They also thanked the swimmers and beachgoers who helped the wildlife crews to rescue the whales.

We hope humans actively volunteer in helping other species that share this earth whenever in need to truly make the world a better place.
