700 Guests Take Organ Donation Vow On Nashik Couple’s Wedding Day

The big fat Indian wedding is one hell of a grand affair. Many families save up all their lives for this one occasion- bachho ki shaadi. Everything is supposed to be lavish, from the food and decor to the bridal outfits. All in all, it is basically a chance for all the guests to assemble and a lot of money to be spent.

However, this couple did something completely different.

The wedding ceremony of Varsha Pagar and Swapnil Kothawade from Nashik was a special affair. In an extraordinary display of resolve, 700 guests took a pledge to donate organs after the bride and groom did so while tying the knot.

Varsha is an assistant provident fund commissioner and Swapnil is an assistant commissioner in income tax. Both the bride and groom are from Nashik, where the wedding was held but are posted out of Maharashtra, according to Times of India.

The couple is very dedicated to social work and share a common interest in it. Talking about the success of their effort, Varsha said,

“Both my husband and I want to donate our organs. We thought our wedding ceremony would be the right occasion to pledge to do so as there would be a lot of guests and it would help create awareness for organ donation.”

Well, I think it was safe to say that their mission was accomplished. 700 people pledging to donate their organs, I mean absolutely incredible.

The response of the guests was so positive that even bags of blood was collected during the ceremony. She added, “The response of the guests was enthusiastic. We collected 62 bags of blood during the ceremony.”

The wedding itself was said to be without the commotion of band and baja. This is because the lovebirds are also very conscious about the environment and wanted to curtail noise pollution as much as they could.

Organ donation can save lives and give someone the chance at a second future. It is such a noble task to undertake and is heartwarming that people like Varsha and Swapnil actually dedicated their big to this important drive. You make us all believe in the inherent goodness in humanity.
