Vaani Kapoor Opens Up About Doing Small Roles, Says Big Films Go To ‘Bigger Actors’

Ever since her debut in the 2013 film ‘Shudh Desi Romance’, Vaani Kapoor hasn’t had many roles that offer her long screentime. Take for example her appearance in the blockbuster film ‘War’ – there wasn’t much of her to see and she didn’t have much to further the plot of the film. The same happened in the film ‘Bell Bottom’.

Vaani Kapoor recently opened up about her ‘blink and miss’ appearances in films, reports The Indian Express. Talking about her character in ‘Bell Bottom’, she said that her character wasn’t a difficult one to crack.

“Yes, it’s not the most difficult part for me to play. It was well defined on paper for me to understand what she is or who she is. And it didn’t take a lot of research for me to crack her.”

She goes on to say how it is difficult to get in touch with the right people, film, and production houses in the film industry and that getting well-written female roles is all the more difficult.

“It’s very hard to break into the industry with the right people, the right film and the right production. And on top of that, to get a perfect and well-written part for a female actor, it’s not easy. Yes, there is an emergence of women-driven parts but it’s not that easy.”

Vaani claimed that the good female roles go to “bigger” and more “credible” actors.

“The best ones do go to the bigger, credible actors who’ve already achieved a certain amount of stardom.”

She added that her aim is to reach a certain level of popularity by working in big-hero films. By working with actors like Akshay Kumar or Ajay Devgn, who have a massive audience, she gets to have a big reach.

“One’s aim is to reach that (stardom/popularity), which is helped by working with actors like Akshay Kumar who has a massive audience. His loyal fans and his loyal audience comes to watch his films. He has a very big reach, and no one can deny that.”

Vaani said that she prefers to see the “bigger picture” – either have a small part in a good film or a big role in an average film.

“I believe in seeing the bigger picture. I believe that you could be a small part of a very important film and do well or you could be a big part of a film that isn’t well written or well made. So, I think sometimes you have to take these decisions. I’m not going to just focus on my screen time. It’s about what I do with the screen time that has been offered to me.”
