Lawyer Files Affidavit Saying CJI Is Being Framed For Sexual Harassment, Investigations Underway

Last week, a 35-year-old female junior court assistant submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court of India accusing The Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, of sexually harassing her and intimidating her family. At the hearing held on April 20, the CJI rubbished the woman’s claims and declared them false. Currently, an in-house inquiry is being carried out to investigate the matter further.

Now, a 32-year-old lawyer named Utsav Singh Bains has alleged that this sexual harassment allegation is, in fact, a conspiracy by ex-employees to frame the CJI.

According to Scroll.in, Justices Arun Mishra, Rohinton Nariman and Deepak Gupta heard the advocate’s affidavit yesterday. It claimed that he was offered money by the conspirators to help them. The bench also had a secret sitting with chiefs of the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Intelligence Bureau and the Delhi Police.

The three-judge bench has asked the advocate to submit another affidavit with further evidence that supports his claim saying,

“He [Bains] has said that there are fixers. We need to find out who are these fixers. We will inquire and inquire and inquire and take it to logical conclusion.”

The panel that is looking into the accusations against the CJI has scheduled the next hearing tomorrow. Whether they are true or part of a larger conspiracy is still unclear.
