It seems like some people just can’t register the fact that dowry is an illegal practice in our country, punishable by imprisonment for a minimum of three years. Which is why the evil practice is still prevalent in several parts of the country across various family backgrounds.
However, a groom in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was thrashed by the family members of the bride for allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakhs as dowry, reported TOI. A video of the incident has gone viral in which the groom is seen being manhandled by several people, while a woman clings on to him. Have a look:

According to Times Now, the incident took place at a wedding banquet hall in the Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad. The groom’s father had allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh as dowry and had further threatened to call off the wedding if the demand was not met.
It was reported that the bride’s family had already given the groom Rs 3 lakhs in cash and a diamond ring worth Rs 1 lakh. But still, they weren’t satisfied and demanded more. The bride’s family tried to persuade him but in vain. This angered the bride’s family who then went on to thrash him.
It was also alleged that the groom, who is a resident of Agra, had already married 2-3 times before.
How shameful it is to extort the families of brides in such a way!
