Online Petition For An Uncut Release Of Udta Punjab Has Been Signed By 40,000 People Already

Although Bombay High Court hasn’t really supported CBFC’s decision to censor Udta Punjab and strip the film off its essence, we are yet to know the final verdict until Monday, June 13. In the meantime, Anurag Kashyap, producer of Udta Punjab has taken his own initiative to secure the fate of the much talked about movie.

An online petition for releasing Udta Punjab has been published and filmmakers are requesting everyone to sign it for the sake of art. Here’s what they have to say:

As we all know Udta Punjab is facing issues by the Censor Board. The CBFC is demanding 89 cuts in a film which is talking about the problem of drug abuse in Punjab. We already know about it, the entire country does. Then why is the film being stopped from getting released? Why does truth require curtailing? Where are we heading? Where is the Freedom of Expression? Is this the same country where film like ‘Mastizaade’, ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’ released? How did they get a green signal? We are apalled by the decision that the CBFC has made and want it to change, once and for all. Filmmakers should be given the right to express until and unless they are not hurting the sentiments of the country or saying anything that is anti national. Lets fight together and sign this petition for the release of ‘Udta Punjab’, untouched!

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION. LETS NOT LET THEM KILL ART AND DECIDE FOR EVERYONE.

If you believe that Udta Punjab should be released uncut, sign the petition right now.

40,000 people have already signed the petition which includes celebrities from Bollywood as well. Here’s what they have tweeted after signing the petition to let Udta Punjab release uncut.

Hope this sends out a message, strong, loud and clear!
