You Can Now Convert Your ‘Waiting List’ Train Ticket Into An Air Ticket, Says IRCTC.

Booking train tickets in India can be a daunting task because the probability of the ticket getting confirmed is bleak. Well, most of the times!

IRCTC has put an end to our troubles. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to offer passengers who fail to get their waitlisted ticket confirmed, an option to convert it into an airline ticket at a competitive fare. The passengers would get an air ticket on GoAir on the same route at a competitive price.

“We have also entered into an understanding with SpiceJet under the scheme and plan to rope in other domestic carriers too,” said Sandip Dutta, IRCTC spokesman. He further added,” Passengers booking train tickets right from sleeper class to AC classes can avail the facility.” “For such passengers, the airline ticket would be competitively priced and cheaper by as much as 30-40 percent,” he said.

However, not everyone can avail this facility. There are a few conditions to be met before that.

The passengers should have booked their tickets at least three days prior to the date of travel.

After that, if their tickets are not confirmed, IRCTC would send over an email, asking them to avail this facility. So, the passengers can benefit from this and they don’t have to cancel their plan.

This scheme was introduced because the domestic airlines have about 20 percent seats empty in their plane. So, this would be beneficial for them as well.

Win-win situation, isn’t it? That’s absolutely a good change for the passengers by IRCTC.
