India’s Job Market: 3,000 Techies Line Up In Front Of Cognizant In Pune For Walk-In Interview

The current state of India’s job market is concerning. In cities like Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, hiring has been reduced by 5%, 6% and 4% respectively, reported The Hindu. Hiring in engineering jobs has specifically seen a large decline. However, those with 0 to 3 years of experience have an advantage over senior and mid-senior-level professionals when it comes to getting hired by companies.

This probably explains why nearly 3,000 young professionals queued outside a Pune-based company for a recent walk-in interview drive targeting junior developer positions which are typically sought by freshers. According to NDTV, this incident happened in Hinjawadi which is known for attracting IT talent. The company which the freshers were applying to is Cognizant.

A video has been shared on social media where we see innumerable freshers queuing outside on the road to submit their resumes. Have a look:

There were reportedly 100 vacant job positions for which these 3,000 young professionals were lining up. This goes on to show how India needs to diversify the job market. The economy’s overreliance on certain sectors has left it vulnerable to shocks, causing unemployment. Our country needs to address this by helping people learn new skills for different jobs, encouraging them to start their own businesses, and improving training for practical jobs. This way, more people can find work, and the country can better handle tough economic times.
