Guy Spots 2015 Novel In Huma Qureshi’s ‘Tarla’ – A Film Set In The 1970s

Huma Qureshi’s latest film is Tarla – a biopic on popular chef and writer Tarla Dalal. You might have grown up watching her in television cooking shows like ‘The Tarla Dalal Show’ and ‘Cooking It Up With Tarla Dalal’. Huma’s performance is being hailed by several film critics currently and the film is receiving impressive reviews from those who watched it.

However, Manish Gaekwad (who is an author and works at Red Chillis Entertainment) took to Twitter to share a screenshot from the film. There is nothing wrong with the shot at first glance but once you zoom in, you will find a particular book kept at the background of one character.

The book is called ‘A Little Life’ authored by an American writer Hanya Yanagihara. It was published in 2015. The film Tarla is set in the 1970s!

“I was watching Tarla when I noticed this book connection between Tarla Dalal and Hanya Yanagihara. This scene is set in 1974. Hanya’s novel A Little Life was published in 2015. How can the makers purposely stage such a mistake?” Manish tweeted.

Similar kinds of mistakes can be seen in many films. For example, in Akshay Kumar’s Marathi film ‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat’, where the actor essayed the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a huge chandelier full of lightbulbs was spotted in one of its scenes. One would ask what is wrong with it, but the film was based between 1630 to 1680. The lightbulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1880 (200 years later).

In ‘Tarla’, this could have been an honest mistake by the set decorators. Here’s what some people online thought of it:
