As per a report in TOI, 2 brothers from Tamil Nadu named V Niranjan Kumar and Lenin Kumar, aged 30 and 32 respectively, have been stealing goats for the last 3 years to help fund a movie their father was producing starring the siblings in lead roles. The Madhavaram police finally arrested them on Saturday.

Navbharat Times reports that they stole 8-10 goats a day and sold each for around Rs. 8,000. They would drive around the deserted rural stretches of areas like Chengalpet, Madhavaram, Minjur, and Ponneri to search for animals grazing by the roadside. If no one was around, they would quickly pick up one or two goats, bundle them in the car, and flee away.

They would repeat the same process in multiple areas, and made sure not to steal more than one or two from a single herd. As a result, no one bothered to complain about the loss of just 1-2 goats.

Unfortunately, their luck ran out when they stole a goat from a person named Palani of Madhavaram, who only had 6 goats and the loss of 1 upset him enough to lodge a police complaint. During their investigation, it was found that many people in the area had lost a goat or two from their respective herds.

Upon checking the CCTV footage, the police were able to spot the thieves in the car. But the registration number was not visible. Hence, they deployed personnel in civvies in the locality in order to keep a watch. On Saturday, they were finally able to nab the two brothers while they were attempting to steal a goat lying on the road.

The thieving duo’s father named Vijay Shankar was producing a film of his own titled ‘Nee Thaan Raja’. It featured both of his sons in lead roles. But due to lack of money, their film shooting was stopped midway. That’s when the sons decided to help out and hatched their goat-theft plans.

In the beginning, the two used to meet goatherds in isolated locations, telling them that they were scouting locations for films. They would then proceed to sweet talk them into selling a couple of goats for a pittance. They then moved on to theft thinking that no one would complain if they lost a goat or two, and that the police wouldn’t take these complaints seriously. But now, they both have landed in judicial custody.

This incident would definitely work well as a script for a comedy movie. Don’t you think?
