25 Sci-Fi, Fantasy And Superhero Films Of 2018 That Are Literally A Nerd’s Dream Come True!

All the moviebuffs in the house, make some noise. 2017 is gone (well, almost) and it’s time to update your movie calendars according to the new year that’s knocking at your doorstep. Now, don’t go all, ‘No shit, Sherlock’ on me. I’m just helping in my own odd, putting-together-a-list-kinda way!

While we have already shared with you the list of Bollywood, horror, rom-com and animated films to watch in 2018, today we’re concentrating on the genres that grab our eyeballs the most. We’re talking Sci-Fi, Adventure, Fantasy and Superhero movies, peeps! Oh, yasss!

Without much yapping about it, here, have a look.

1. Black Panther

You may have seen him in Captain America: Civil War. Damn sure a whole lot of you were psyched about the standalone film about King T’Challa. And, here, we got it. The trailer was so amazing that we can’t wait for this one.

2. Avengers: Infinity War

When the trailer of the mega-starrer film hit us, we took a while to soak in all the thrill. I mean, come on! The cross is a helluva one and each frame has too many details, we can’t afford to miss. To those, not finding it exciting, all I wanna say is: Who the hell are you guys?

3. Deadpool 2

The funniest superhero of all time, Mr. Wade Wilson is back. And, back with a bang! The marketing of the film is taking a different route and leaving us in splits. We’re dying here with anticipation to see what Deadpool is up to this time.

4. Ant Man and the Wasp

The tiniest superhero is coming with a riveting tale and this time he’s teaming up with a wasp. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are the duo that have piqued our Marvel interests and July is not that far away, to say the least. Or is it?

5. Venom

The Black Spidey has gotten a full-length movie and the Spider-verse is getting more and more interesting, each passing year. And, guess what? Tom Hardy is playing the man and Riz Ahmed has a role too. Ladies, feels?

6. X-Men: Dark Phoenix

What happens after the Apocalypse? This one maps the events after that. In this multi-starrer, the X-Men must face the full power of the Dark Phoenix (Jean Grey) and that of the shape shifter alien, Shi’ar empire.

7. Aquaman

Christmas next year is made, because Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman is releasing. How long do we have to wait to lay our eyes on the man? Too DAMN long.

This Albert Hughes directorial stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Leonor Varela and Jens Hultén. It is set against a backdrop of an hunting expedition 20,000 years ago in Europe, during the Upper Paleolithic period. Woah!

Starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Storm Reid, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine, this science fantasy adventure film’s trailer had us impressed. Well, why not? It’s so effing good.

10. Tomb Raider

The popular game is now a being turned into a film and the excitement level in fans is hitting the roof. Starring Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Nick Frost and Kristin Scott Thomas, we are making time.

11. Pacific Rim Uprising

All you Charlie Hunnan, Idris Elba fans in the house, you may not see them in this one, but dayam there are others you wouldn’t wanna miss. Like, John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, and Adria Arjona, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi.

12. Ready Player One

14. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

T-Rex FTW! And, Blue has our hearts. After peeking into the world, it’s time to peek into the fallen world and see how the rescue plan works out. The trailer has teased us quite a lot, anyway. Directed by J.A. Bayona, it marks the return of Jeff Goldblum.

15. Alita: Battle Angel

Based on Yukito Kishiro’s magna of the same name, this film’s stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, and Keean Johnson. And, might I add here that it is a James Cameron production directed by Robert Rodriguez. Ready for the cyborg heroine? Oh, yeah!

16. Mission: Impossible 6

Can there be a day that we’ve have had enough of Ethan Hunt? NEVER! This time joining him is Henry Cavill (yess), Vanessa Kirby, Sian Brooke and Angela Bassett. Yass!

17. Robin Hood

Starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Eve Hewson, Jamie Dornan, Ben Mendelsohn, and Paul Anderson, the action-adventure film is sending us down the memory lane. Let’s see if this Otto Bathurst helmed film does justice to the tale or not.

18. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will see Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore attempting to take down the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. And, it is a delight for any potterhead. *grins ear-to-ear*

19. Mowgli

Directed by Andy Serkis, this film will see Rohan Chand (the Bad Words guy :D), Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto, with motion capture performances from Serkis, Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hollander and Cate Blanchett. How different will this be from Jon Favreau’s Disney version, is to be seen.

20. Bumblebee: The Movie

21. Mary Poppins Returns

It is the sequel to the 1964 film, Mary Poppins, this is set after 25 years and it’ll see Mary Poppins re-visits the kids she looked after, after a family tragedy. It stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and Angela Lansbury.

22. Annihilation

It is a science fantasy action horror film directed by Alex Garland. It is based on the book of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. It stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson.

23. Christopher Robin

The little boy from the Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin is now all grown up and has lost all sense of imagination. But, Pooh comes back and tries to bring back that imagination. Ewan McGregor is our Christopher Robin and Jim Cummings is our Pooh, and it has Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss in key roles.

24. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

It is the story of a young girl who finds a Nutcracker doll and is asked by her parents to take special care of it. It stars Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman in key roles and we are ready to be transported to the fantasy world.

25. Maze Runner: The Death Cure

The final film in the Maze Runner series is here and we’ll finally see what the gang is up to. The trailer is quite elaborate and impressive. Will Thomas be able to choose? And, is WCKD really good?

Women leading the film and whatta star cast. If you haven’t seen the trailer, go watch it. It has Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling, and Anne Hathaway. This is Danny Ocean’s estranged sister, Debbie’s heist plan this time. And, we are all eyes.

Not only that, there are movies like The Women of Marwen, The Purge, The Predator, Captive State, Kin, The Darkest Minds, God Particle, and many more releasing next year, that we have our eyes peeled for.
